So far, only a few hundred online shops worldwide accept payment via Bitcoin. However, the trend is clearly towards more and more online retailers including Bitcoin as a payment method. If you want to pay for a product or service specifically with Bitcoin, it may take some time to find an online shop that accepts payment with Bitcoin.

How Can I Pay with Bitcoin in an Online Shop?

In the following, we would like to give you a brief overview in the form of a step-by-step guide on how to pay with Bitcoin in an online shop:

Select product or service
Select Bitcoin as payment method
Separate payment window: note the online shop’s public key as the recipient address
Send the corresponding number of Bitcoins from your wallet to this address

The first two steps, i.e. the selection of the desired service or the goods that you would like to buy in the online shop, are not special procedures for payment by Bitcoin, but are common to all forms of payment. This also applies, of course, to the selection of the corresponding payment methods. At this point, you choose Bitcoins as the form of payment.

In this case, you will usually be taken to a separate payment window, from which you can take the recipient address, i.e. the public key, which you will then need for the payment. Now, of course, you need to gain access to your wallet, in which the Bitcoins are stored. From there, you can then initiate the payment to the online shop by clicking on “Send Bitcoins” at the appropriate point and, of course, entering both the number of coins to be transferred and the recipient address, i.e. the public key, of the online shop. Normally, the payment is confirmed within a few minutes, so that the payment process in the online shop is already completed and the goods can often be dispatched on the same day.
