Cardano Midnight Airdrop Launches Now
The Cardano Midnight Airdrop launched just minutes ago – the Midnight Foundation announced this via X. Midnight is a sidechain of the popular Cardano crypto network, and its native token is called NIGHT. Its distribution begins today.
“The NIGHT portal is officially live.🔓All participants of the Glacier Drops and the Scavenger Mine can now claim their tokens,” the Midnight Foundation wrote.

To that end, the foundation published a guide for all potential airdrop participants. Eligible users can unlock their full allocation within 360 days and send it to their private Cardano address.
The authors advise users to select an address for receiving that holds sufficient ADA to cover the associated network fees.
What’s Behind Cardano’s Midnight Sidechain?
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson congratulated Midnight and its developers last night on the successful launch of the NIGHT token. The technical rollout of the token within the Cardano network had already succeeded on November 25.

“I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone who participated in making Midnight a reality,” Hoskinson began his speech.
“That was quite a challenge. We worked on it for six years. The launch had to be postponed several times, and the technology had to be repeatedly revised,” the American announced.
Midnight is the most advanced implementation of blockchain technology that Input Output Global (IOG) has to offer. Input Output is Cardano’s primary developer, founded in 2015 by Cardano creator Hoskinson. Previously known as Input Output Global, a rebranding occurred a few days ago to encompass various working groups.
“We have developed a technology that we believe holds great promise. Midnight is the first fourth-generation cryptocurrency. (…) Many more interesting developments will follow,” Hoskinson explained.
The Midnight sidechain itself is not yet publicly available. Only the NIGHT token has launched so far. The new sidechain will allow users to conduct confidential transactions in the future.
Midnight thus stands in stark contrast to the Cardano mainnet, which transparently displays all transactions to the public. For certain use cases and individuals who wish to protect their financial data, this transparency is not sufficient. That’s why IOG founded the new sidechain.
“Soon we will launch the federated mainnet and the rewarded testnet. So, the next few months will be a lot of fun,” Hoskinson continued.
According to the developers’ current statements, Midnight is expected to be released next year. From 2026, users will also be able to conduct confidential money transfers via the Cardano network.
“It allows us to establish innovations previously unknown in the crypto industry (…) primarily a simple way to give people back their [financial] privacy.”
