Is Bitcoin in a supercycle? Here’s why Binance founder CZ is optimistic
Bitcoin is currently in a supercycle, according to Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ). A so-called supercycle is an unusually long phase of price gains.
CNBC recently asked CZ for his assessment, as the crypto winter would normally set in in the calendar year 2026, if one believes in the four-year Bitcoin cycle. Accordingly, the crypto market would be characterized by losses this year.
Due to greatly changed conditions, some experts have been expressing concerns for months. Experts like Arthur Hayes or Matt Hougan believe that the four-year cycle is now obsolete. This is mainly due to a regulatory opening by the USA.
“If you look at the next five to ten years, the price development can be predicted very accurately: It’s going up,” CZ told CNBC.
Although CZ has mixed feelings for the year 2026, he has a strong feeling that Bitcoin will continue to make gains thanks to the supercycle. BTC would therefore break through its all-time high of around $126,000, which it was able to set in October 2025. As of press time, the cryptocurrency is trading at $87,730.

Will the USA trigger a ripple effect for crypto?
In the interview, the Chinese native also explained why he is so convinced of a supercycle. According to him, the Bitcoin price would be driven by favorable political developments, which CZ believes should reach an international scale.
He names the United States of America as the center of this development. The new political measures in the USA will spread a ripple effect.
“Because the USA is promoting crypto so strongly and other countries will follow this example, the four-year cycle will be broken,” Zhao explains.
In July 2025, US President Donald Trump signed the GENIUS Act, the first of three crypto laws to be introduced under the new government. GENIUS sets requirements in connection with stablecoins.
Currently, CLARITY, the second of the laws, is on everyone’s lips. The regulation is causing many disputes, as different players want to influence the law. CLARITY is actually intended to create legal certainty for the most basic processes that one completes when using cryptocurrencies.
Another law is to follow with the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act. This regulation is also still in the works.
