The SEC is the stock exchange supervisory authority in the USA.

What is the SEC?

The SEC (US Securities and Exchange Commission) is the securities and exchange supervisory authority of the United States of America. All stock exchange activities and actions that have to do with securities are monitored by the SEC.

Why is the SEC Important for Crypto?

For the SEC, many cryptocurrencies apart from Bitcoin are securities. This argument is also an essential component of the court case between the SEC and Ripple (XRP).

For a long time, the SEC was considered crypto-skeptic. In the meantime, however, the SEC has also made positive statements about Bitcoin and strongly differentiates between Bitcoin and altcoins.
