Circulating Supply

When referring to the “circulating supply”, it refers to the amount of a cryptocurrency in circulation on the market at a specific time – it is therefore the circulating supply. This should be distinguished from the amount of coins or tokens that exist (or will exist) in a system in total.

Difference between Circulating Supply and Supply

The tokens that exist (or will exist) in a system in total belong to the supply. An example of this can be seen with the meme currency Shiba Inu Coin (SHIB). There, the supply amounts to one quadrillion SHIB tokens. The circulating supply, on the other hand, currently amounts to 560 trillion tokens, as SHIB tokens are burned by a burning mechanism.
