What is Distributed Ledger Technology?
Distributed Ledger Technology refers to decentrally organized ledgers. Instead of a centrally responsible authority, many different parties verify transactions in the ledger.
Probably the best-known Distributed Ledger Technology is the blockchain. DLTs are essentially decentralized databases or “ledgers” distributed across many different network members. All network participants can view internal data – and, depending on the authorization status – edit it.
Cryptocurrencies without blockchain – such as Iota – are also based on Distributed Ledger Technology.
