We recently provided details about the new Ledger in our Ledger Nano S Plus review. If you are still unsure whether this Ledger is the right model for you or whether you should rather opt for the Ledger Nano S X Wallet, it is worth taking a look at our comparison.
Ledger Nano S plus and Ledger Nano X: Similarities
In our Ledger comparison, we first look at the similarities between the two hardware wallets. Here we can already see that the Ledger Nano S Plus is equivalent in many aspects despite the significantly lower price.
- Display and connections: Both models have a screen with 128 x 64 px, even though the Ledger Nano X Wallet is slightly larger. In addition, both hardware wallets have a USB-C port.
- Number of supported cryptocurrencies and apps: The view of the supported apps is interesting. Here, the Ledger Nano X Wallet was far superior to the Ledger Nano S. Now the Ledger Nano S Plus, like the Nano X Wallet, supports up to 100 apps. In addition, both hardware wallets support a total of 5500 digital assets.
- Security: There are also no differences in security between the two Ledgers. Secure Element Chips are implemented in both hardware wallets, which are tamper-proof. This means that the keys are never disclosed. The chip used is (CC) EAL5+ certified and verified by ANSSI. In addition, both series of Ledger Nano use the highly developed “Blockchain Open Ledger Operating System”.
So if it’s just a matter of using as many apps as possible or securely storing many different cryptocurrencies, you’re already well served with the Ledger Nano S Plus. Like the Nano X Wallet, the Ledger Nano S Plus is designed for the most common operating systems (Windows 8 and higher, MacOS, Linux and Android). The fact that the manufacturer has taken the same security precautions for both wallets clearly speaks in favor of the Ledger Nano S Plus when looking at the price of both models.

What are the Differences between the Ledger Nano S plus and the Ledger Nano X?
Of course, there are also a few differences that justify the higher price of the Ledger Nano X hardware wallet. From a superficial perspective, the Ledger Nano X is slightly larger and, at 34 grams, around 60 percent heavier than the Ledger Nano S Plus (21 grams). However, the most important differences between the two Ledgers arise from the fact that you can also use the Ledger Nano X wirelessly.
You cannot use the Ledger Nano S Plus hardware wallet wirelessly. It is always necessary to connect it via USB-C. In contrast, the Ledger Nano X has a battery life of around 8 hours. You can also connect it to other devices via Bluetooth. The Ledger Nano S Plus, on the other hand, has no Bluetooth function.
Conclusion on the Comparison: which Ledger is Better?
The Ledger Nano X costs around twice as much as the Nano S Plus Wallet. Looking at the features, however, we notice that the Nano S Plus Wallet only lacks a battery and Bluetooth capability. That is the main difference between the two wallets.
If you can do without a Bluetooth wallet, we believe that the Ledger Nano S Plus is the best choice. Compared to the old Ledger Nano S, the S Plus Wallet is a real upgrade and, at under 100 francs compared to the Nano X Wallet, a real bargain and our recommendation for all crypto owners who want to keep their cryptocurrencies safe.
