Bitcoin Halving

One of the most important features of Bitcoin is the so-called Bitcoin Halving. The Bitcoin Halving ensures a steadily decreasing number of Bitcoins and is therefore the main driver for the scarcity of the “digital gold”.

What is the Bitcoin Halving?

Miners receive rewards for transaction verification in the BTC network, as well as in several other crypto systems. These fees are halved every 210,000 blocks generated (currently about every four years) – most recently in May 2020. The current reward is 6.25 Bitcoins. Once 21 million Bitcoins have been generated, the revenues will cease. The next halving is expected to take place in the spring of 2024.

With each halving, Bitcoin mining centers earn less BTC for the work invested, which is why a rising Bitcoin price is important for profitability. But the Bitcoin Mining Difficulty also plays a role here.
