Hash Rate

The hash rate serves as the basis for determining computing power within the Bitcoin network. For security purposes, the network constantly performs complex mathematical calculations. The higher the hash rate, the more tasks can be solved within a shorter period of time.

The unit is specified in hashes per second: giga-hash (GH/s) corresponds to one billion, tera-hash (TH/s) to one trillion calculations per second. If the hash rate were one tera-hash, for example, it would mean that one trillion calculations could be performed per second in the blockchain. Modern mining hardware today operates in the peta-hash (PH/s) and exa-hash (EH/s) range.

Several miners can join together in a mining pool, which increases the total computing power and improves the chances of solving the difficult calculation tasks within the specified limit.
